SLL 103: Advanced Spanish Grammar [Gramática española avanzada]
Description of the Course:
This course studies Spanish grammar appropriate to advanced level or higher. It deals with noun and verbal phrases, particularly in high-level composition. We will study the following elements: Orthography, verb conjugations in all tenses, personal pronouns, simple and complex sentence structures. There will be frequent oral exercises, dialogues, and guided conversation about different real life situations. Placement exam is required on the first day of class. (Offered Fall and Spring Semester)
Units: 3
Which MLO did this course meet?:1, 2
Course Reflective Narrative:
This course was taken while studying abroad at Complutense University in Madrid. This course taught us briefly about different conjugations, mostly focusing on subjunctive and other areas of trouble.
Each week, we would learn a new concept. The class before, our teacher would assign us homework for the next concept so we could become familiar with the topic. We would go over it in class, and then our teacher would formally teach it to us. Most of the concepts I had seen from previous Spanish classes, but sometimes it would be fresh new content that I hadn't seen before.
One of the parts that I have struggled the most, and still struggle with is the placement of accents. This class helped me understand more of the rules but it is something that I have to constantly remind myself of when I am writing.
As a final assignment, our professor and us take one aspect of the grammar and write a 3 to 4 page write-up and then teach it to the rest of the class, like a mini lesson plan. The objective of the final assignment was to understand and master a topic, and then be able to convey for the rest of the class to grasp and understand the concept. This written and oral assignment was meant to showcase how well you could understand a complex part of grammar in a written way.We also had to provide original examles to show whatever concept was given
