Units: 4
Which MLO did this course meet: MLO 2
Course Reflective Narrative:
I completed this course fall semester of 2013 with Dr. Carlos Arrizabalaga. This course fulfills MLO 2: Language and Linguistic Knowledge. This course helped me better my understanding of the Spanish grammar used in formal writings and compositions. Throughout the course we wrote four different pieces in distinct styles such as narratives and descriptive pieces in order to complete and convey a certain objective. One of the strongest pieces that I wrote got a high recognition from the professor in the descriptive category (see attachment chiguilar_composition_1_span_301.docx below). We also had debates in our class about events or people that were relevant to the current events. This allowed us to formulate how to properly convey orally our point of view and how to rebuttal properly in a debate.
One of the understandings that were gained from this course was a better understanding of formats for different writing styles as well as grasping a better concept of punctuation and accent marks. Some styles of writing desire some different rules in order to fit the style and Dr. Arrizabalaga emphasized it in the different assignments that were given.
To further implement what I learned in this class, I plan to take all the tools given to me and apply it to other classes where ti is heavily based on writing. One thing that I would like to work on as a Spanish speaking native is the understanding of the placement of accents. Dr. Arrizabalaga went over it in the beginning of the semester but I still had difficulty. My hopes are that I will solidify how to make accent marks in future classes.
