MLO 2 Reflective Narrative:
For someone who's pathway is of linguistics, this MLO is a critical MLO to complete. All the classes listed above are classes that cover the MLO. specifications.
In all of the classes, there was always some sort of linguistic component in it. For example, In SPAN 315, we had to master pretty well the grammar rules in Spanish as well as in English because in translation, the sentence structure has to be correct.
One of the classes that encompasses all of the knowledge that one must know for this MLO is LING 392 and SPAN 313. SPAN 313 and LING 392 were very similar courses, with the exceptions that LIN 392 was not taught in the target language and all of the linguistic components were based on the English language. Even though it was taught in English, it gives a very well foundation for the other classes. if it was taken before all of the other Spanish MLO 2 core courses. In both SPAN 313 and LING 392, they covered syntax, morphology, semantics, phonetics, and grammar rules. Both of these classes were a great general introduction to linguistics and more specifically in the case of SPAN 313, Spanish linguistics.
In the other classes listed above, they would only focus on one or linguistic components rather than all of them. One example of this was SPAN 495 IP: Spanish Phonetics. This class was solely dedicated on the sound system of Spanish. In this class, we would focus on the sounds that exist in the Spanish language, where to form the distinct sounds using the larynx and the points of articulation in the mouth and how Spanish words are formed based on different rules. Although there were not written assignments that we turned in, there were quizzes that would test us on whether or not we could form the sounds, and how to write the symbols for said sounds.
